The weather in Colorado has not been the best for growers this year, but the crop is looking good, according to Susan Sewald, association office manager.

Hail and tornadoes have hit areas around Haxtun, Ft. Morgan, Wiggins, Hudson and Keenesburg with more hail around Yuma and Wray. But the crop has not suffered much loss. "There's not to much damage," she says.

Towards the middle of the state, growers are experiencing dry and unseasonably warm weather. Around Ft. Collins, Longmont and Loveland, temperatures are reaching the high 90s with little precipitation.

Sewald explains growers are extremely busy irrigating but they are doing a good job of keeping their crops wet.

According to Sewald, the Colorado crop is on schedule with previous years. She says early harvest will begin around the end of September with the later harvest beginning in early October.
