Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers have introduced a brand of miniature Wisconsin russet potatoes to be labeled "Baby Bakers."

Baby Bakers are No. 1-grade and are packaged under the tightest specifications in the industry, ensuring the 20-serving, five-pound bags contain very consistent, four-ounce-sized potatoes.

The new offering was introduced in Wisconsin grocery stores in mid-February. National distribution is planned throughout the year.

They were developed to offer consumers more convenience with potato preparation, packaging and cooking time.

"This is by far the most significant product introduction by our growers in the last 10 years," Larry Alsum, WPVGA Fresh Division chairman, said. "We think Baby Bakers could do for russets what B-size packaging did for reds, and that is create an entirely new product segment."
