Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns is the new chairman of agriculture for tax consulting company alliantgroup.

“Basically what that means is I’m going to work with alliantgroup to do everything we can to make sure that agriculture from large to small does qualify for the tax credits that are already available to them, already on the books,” Johanns said.

It’ll be his job to consult with agriculture cooperatives and all sizes of farmers who may qualify for research and development tax credits because of investments in agriculture technology.

“That helps the farmer, helps them on the bottom line, so many, many ways that we can work with various small and medium-sized businesses and in many cases directly with farmers to make sure that they’re maximizing their benefit,” said Johanns.

Johanns said his contact with clients will range from working with prospective clients to offering direct advice to those qualifying for R&D tax credits.
