Tough talk from President-elect Donald Trump is making some ag leaders nervous about a potential trade war with China.

Iowa secretary of agriculture Bill Northey says there is some risk involved with Trump’s tough stance.

“There certainly is a risk to exports when you create an uncertainty to those markets,” Northey says. “We need a certainty that our products are going to move.”

Some pundits say Trump’s selection of Robert Lighthizer as U.S. Trade Representative is another sign the incoming administration will take a tougher stance on China. Lighthizer has been harsh critic of China’s trade practices.
