Executives from Monsanto and Bayer are asking farmers for their support of the proposed merger of the two companies.
As reported by AgWeb, Monsanto Chief Technology Officer Robb Fraley and Bayer CEO Liam Condon reinforced to United Soybean Board directors at the USB winter meeting why the companies will provide better service together than they would separately.
Condon said the acquisition will result in less time to bring technology to the market.
Fraley said the combined resources will help famers be more productive.
“We simply need to farm better in 2050 than we do today,” said Fraley, “and the only way you can do that is through R&D research, more investment and more innovation, and that for me has been the driving force of the acquisition of Monsanto by Bayer.”
Condon told farmers at the USB meeting that until the $66 billion deal is closed in about the fourth quarter of 2017, the two companies will operate completely separately. The proposal is waiting for approval by regulators.
