Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley says he’ll hold a hearing on the increasing consolidation within the seed and chemical industry.

He says the hearing, in late September, will focus on the transactions being reviewed by antitrust regulators – including Syngenta and ChemChina, “and the current trend in consolidation of the seed and chemical industries.”

Grassley says there’s concern about rising input costs for farmers in an already struggling ag economy. The proposed purchase of Syngenta by ChemChina passed its first regulatory requirement from the U.S. The deal has received clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States
