MOORHEAD—American Crystal Sugar Co. has culled a flock of Canada geese nesting and congregating at the lagoons of its north Moorhead plant, Environmental Compliance Supervisor Patrick Rein confirmed July 6.

In all, 121 birds—40 adults and 81 goslings—were captured with nets July 3. The adults will be processed and the meat donated to homeless shelters, while the goslings will be used as food at animal sanctuaries, primarily for wolves, said Tom Keefe, president of Cottage Grove, Minn.-based Canada Goose Management, which conducted the roundup.

"It was more than even I expected," Keefe said. "We have about 30 days of time we can herd them in and pick them up."
