Fieldwork started on sandy soils last week for Michigan growers with warmer, drier weather.

Winter wheat condition dropped 3 percentage points to 69 percent good to excellent, 7 percent is jointed. Topsoil moisture is 45 percent adequate, 54 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is 55 percent adequate, 43 percent surplus.

The Michigan Ag Statistics Office says almost three days were suitable for fieldwork. Only 3 percent of oats were planted and 1 percent of sugarbeets were planted as of Sunday, well behind the five year average.
