ROPA North America, a sugar beet harvesting equipment company, will be expanding its operations in Sandusky, Mich.

The company purchased five acres of land from the city’s industrial park for $10,000. The sale was approved by city council on March 21.

The company, soon to be located at 295 Campbell Road, manufactures, sells and services beet harvesting equipment.

“It brings us a tax base and additional jobs,” said Sandusky City Manager Dave Faber. “And to have their North American headquarters in Sandusky is a huge thing. ROPA is only going to continue to grow in the beet harvesting industry.”

Faber said the company has been leasing a small space from Breiten Lumber in the industrial park for the past year and a half, but has grown enough to need its own home.

The company has not yet submitted final site plans to the city for the new building, but expects to open this year.

The company currently has three employees and once the expansion is complete, will hire an additional two, Faber said.

The company, originally a European business, has locations throughout the United States now, including Wisconsin and Minnesota.
