The Mars food company is the latest to say it will label foods containing GMO ingredients. Mars is best known for its chocolate products but also owns Uncle Ben’s and nearly a dozen other “leading” food brands.
On its website, Mars Incorporated says it aims to deliver products, “that match the different tastes, preferences and perceptions of consumers in different parts of the world.”
That’s followed by a qualifying statement saying Mars firmly believes “GM ingredients are safe” because they have gone through extensive studies and are judged safe by experts around the world.
Mars says its on-package labeling will be clear and will comply with Vermont’s GMO labeling law that goes into effect July 1.
