One of the organizers of the upcoming Midwest Drone Conference says the agriculture industry is quickly adopting the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles on farm operations.

But Stu Ellis says there is concern that the technology might not be registered correctly.

“Even some speakers we’ve asked to come talk admit they might not have all the certificates and paperwork they’re supposed to have,” he says. “We’re finding that is a shortcoming, but it can’t be a shortcoming for people to be able to really use this and do it legally and do it safely.”

He says the one of the goals of the conference is to inform farmers and agribusinesses about the best use of the technology on their farms. The Midwest Drone Conference and Expo is Jan. 26-27 in Decatur, Ill.

“A lot of the high-tech stuff that people really need to know,” he says. “Whether it is in precision agriculture or it’s in regulations or even insurance liability. Those are some of the major questions drone users have these days.”

The show runs two days. The first day will focus on the agriculture industry and will bring in speakers from the FAA and agribusinesses. The educational sessions will conclude with a panel discussion of farmers currently using the technology.
