The president of the American Soybean Association says he’s concerned with the precedent that could be set for registration and re-registration of products by allowing EPA to withdraw its approval of Dow AgroScience’s Enlist Duo herbicide.

Maryland farmer Richard Wilkins says it was a poor decision on the part of EPA.

“The amount of time the EPA took with the thorough review they had conducted before issuing the registration for Enlist Duo—we think they did an adequate job of reviewing that,” he says.

Growers need access to new technologies for hard to control weeds.

“Two different modes of action allow us to get the greater efficacy and more broadly control the weed spectrums that provide challenges to the crops,” he says.

The American Soybean Association, along with the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Corn Growers Association, the National Cotton Council, and the National Farmers Union sent a letter to EPA administrator Gina McCarthy asking the agency to withdraw its request to vacate the registration for the herbicide.
