Tractor and combine sales up last year

Final numbers from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers show 2013 was a good year for tractor and combine sales in the United States.

The tally reveals 201,988 farm tractors were sold in the year, up 9.1 percent from 2012. Two-wheel-drive sales were 9.5 percent higher totaling 195,080 units while four-wheel-drive sales actually slipped 0.4 percent to 6,908.

The biggest increase in two-wheel-drive sales was in the 100-plus horsepower category, up 17.6 percent from 2012 at 37,275 tractors. The largest-selling category was under-40 horsepower, 100,685 units were sold in 2013 representing a 9.1 percent increase from 2012.

Self-propelled combine sales totaled 10,765 for the year up 9.8 percent from 2012.
