As of Monday, the House Rules Committee had posted 226 amendments for that chamber's version of the farm bill.

Among them was one to set the target price for all crops at 55 percent of the five-year rolling Olympic average. That amendment also changes the acreage available for target price support to 85 percent of the farmer's base acres.

Other amendments include federal sugar program reform; changes to crop insurance premium subsidies; as well as to replace the dairy producer margin protection and dairy market stabilization programs. There are also several amendments that would make changes to food stamps, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas and Ranking Member Collin Peterson are expected to ask for a rule allowing debate on all subjects House members want to discuss.

However, they want limits on the number of amendments on each subject. The Rules Committee was expected to issue a rule on how farm bill amendments will be handled on the House floor.
