Sugarbeet powdery mildew was identified in the Magic Valley near Filer, Idaho, July 23, 2007, by Amalgamated Sugar Company fieldmen Nic Wittman and Dave Scantlin. The diagnosis was confirmed in the laboratory. Growers in the area are advised to begin their powdery mildew spray programs to minimize economic loss. Proper timing of fungicide application is key good control. For maximum benefit, fungicides should be applied as a protectant before the disease is established rather than later as an eradicant.
