RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--Bayer CropScience offers Gemr 500 SC Fungicide for disease protection in sugarbeets. The new product is a concentrated liquid formulation for control of Cercospora leaf spot and powdery mildew and for suppression of Rhizoctonia. "Sugarbeet growers know that stopping disease early in the season is key to maintaining yields," says Randy Myers, Bayer CropScience Fungicide Portfolio Manager. "New Gem 500 SC prevents spore germination and formation during early infection, making it a perfect product for early-season application." Gem 500 SC is a new concentrated liquid formulation with use rates of 2.9 to 3.6 oz/acre. The liquid concentrate makes for easier product pouring and fewer jugs to handle. "Growers have seen how well Gem performs on foliar diseases in sugarbeets. We think they will really appreciate that new Gem 500 SC is dust free and much easier to use and handle," Myers added. UPDATE: Bayer has increased the rebate on Gem 500SC fungicide from what was formerly $7/acre to a new level of $8.75 per acre (at 3.5 oz rate). For questions concerning the use of Gem 500 SC, growers should visit www.BayerCropScienceUS.com or talk to their local Bayer CropScience representative.
