Sugarbeet growers in the Treasure Valley of eastern Oregon and western Idaho have been given alerts about root maggots. Amalgamated Sugar Company field men reported that root maggot flies have been spotted in the Ontario and Wieser area. They recommend if growers have not yet applied a treatment, to do so as soon as possible. Infestations are reported to be worse in fields that are following grain or corn fields or fields that have had mint sludge applied to them.
