Canada is seeking to increase its agriculture exports into the United States. A recent meeting of agricultural officials was held to explore ways.

Prince Edward Island Ag Minister Mitch Murphy hosted the meeting of northeast commissioners and agriculture ministers to discuss ways of strengthening cross-border trade in eastern Canada and the United States.

The meeting resulted from a resolution passed at an August meeting of New England and Eastern Canadian premiers.

Food safety, pest management and environmentally sound agricultural practices were discussed.

PEI exported more than $80 million to New England states in 2001—up from $55 million in 1998.
