There will be just a very slight increase in seed potato acres entered for certification in the United States this year.

USDA/NASS statistics show that 136,267 have been planted this year as compared to last year’s 136,069. Last year 129,017 acres of the latter figure were certified by state certification agencies.

Idaho is once again the leading supplier of seed potatoes, with some 41,000 entered for certification. This is compared to last year’s 38,581.

Second on the production ladder is North Dakota with 19,569 acres. This is down from last year’s 22,221. Colorado comes in third with 17,400 acres, up from the 16,813 planted last year.

Maine is in the fourth place spot with 14,500 acres, above last year’s 14,000 acres. Fifth place was grabbed by Wisconsin with 10,732 acres, slightly ahead of last year’s 10,450.
