Growers in the Grand Forks, ND, area breathed a sign of relief yesterday after an early season blizzard nearly paralyzed many areas of the state.

Most beets-in fact 99.9 percent-had been harvested and hauled to piles.

The early season snowstorm left vehicles stranded alongside most major highways. There were four fatalities caused by poor road conditions.

The snow was welcomed from one aspect-it was a wet one and was badly needed as the area had been dry all fall. It will also help to ensure cool temperatures for the piles, which went in this year in perfect condition with very little dirt.
