Basic American Plant Damaged By Fire

An explosion and fire believe started from natural gas damaged a portion of the Basic American Foods potato processing plant in Blackfoot, ID, Saturday evening.

Firemen were called to the plant about 7 p.m. after the loud explosion. According to reports, no one was in the building at the time.

The fire has reportedly put 35 workers out of business. The research and development portion of the operation was the most seriously damaged.

Potato processing operations were not affected and the plant was running again Monday.
