Simplot Increases Offer To Aussies

Simplot has agreed to give Tasmanian growers an extra A$22 a ton this season and future increases over the next two years, increasing contracts to A$36 a ton.

The announcement came after Tasmanian growers have complained they had received no contract increase in 10 years. They bargained in unison with other Australian grower groups to get both Simplot and McCain Food to increase returns.

Upon acceptance of the latest price offer, Tasmanian grower/spokesman Max McKenna said the deal offers growers security.
"I believe the big majority of the growers will see it as a confidence for the future and the majority of growers will stay in the industry," he said
