Canada is banking on tri-national trade accord meetings in Mexico to move more seed potatoes.

Canadian Agricultural Minister Mitch Murphy is presently in Mexico meeting with United States and Mexican trade officials.

Canada is currently the only country exporting seed potatoes into Mexico. However, New Brunswick seed was banned in 2000 and PEI seed last January.

The Mexican market sometimes accounts for 10 percent of PEI's total export market. Murphy's goal is to get that back for PEI growers.
