Poll Shows Acceptance Growing

The Alliance for Better Foods applauded the results of an independent Gallup News Service poll, which shows that more than half of consumers support agriculture biotech.

Some 52 percent of respondents said they support agricultural biotechnology. A similar majority (53 percent) said they are not concerned that foods developed through biotechnology could pose a health problem.

Opposition to biotechnology, according to the survey, hovers around one-third of all respondents.

The Gallup survey found that nine out of 10 Americans are confident foods in the grocery stores are safe to eat. That's a 9 percent increase from two years ago
