McCain Foods Buys N.Z. Foodservice

McCain Foods of Florenceville, NB, announced a purchase agreement for New Zealand foodservice frozen vegetables and french fry business of Heinz Wattie's Australiasia for C$33 million.

Harrison McCain, chairman, said the purchase will include the assets of Heinz Wattie's Fielding french fry and vegetable processing facility and the associated goodwill of its New Zealand foodservice business.

McCain said the purchase would enhance the company's marketing position in New Zealand and provide additional export potential.

Heinz Wattie's facility in Fielding, NZ, processes frozen french fries and potato specialty products, and some bulk vegetables. Heinz Wattie is a subsidiary of the Heinz Corp.
