Actara (foliar) and Platinum (soil) insecticides have now been registered by the EPA.

According to Syngenta, both contain the active ingredient thiamethoxam, a second-generation neonicotinoid insecticide. Thiamethoxam has unique chemical properties that offer several advantages over other chemistries.

"One application of Platinum at planting controls all major potato insects including psyllids," says Coby Long, Syngenta insecticide brand manager.

"For growers who prefer foliar applications, Actara offers excellent residual control of many damaging insects with a wide margin of worker safety.
