Potato Grower magazine has learned that grocery store shelf space for frozen potato products is continuing to shrink. A spokesman for a prepared-food brokerage company said some major grocery store chains are moving in a direction to shrink freezer space for frozen processed potato products for more popular items as pizza and other frozen-prepared items. This shrinkage in some of the major chains in the East and Midwest may be by as much as six to seven feet. Frozen potato products sales are described as "flat". Frozen potato product growth over the last few years has been 5-6 percent. Other frozen foods are surpassing potatoes in customer popularity, and hence, supermarket profits.
