McCain Foods denies that it is delaying contracts to Prince Edward Island, Can., potato growers because of the potato wart crisis.

McCain said this week its peelings and waste are no longer going to a Maine plant to be used for making dog food. McCain says the waste-disposal problem is not affecting the signing of regular spring contracts with growers.

All major potato processors have been slow signing contracts. Many believe it is because there is still the huge 2000 crop surplus available in storage for fry use.
