U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine announced that Dave Lavway, the National Potato Council's Government Relations Director, has been recommended to be State Director of the USDA's Farm Service Agency.

Senator Snowe said, "Maine's agricultural community will be well served by Dave Lavway as State Director of the FSA. He grew up on an Aroostook County potato farm and is a seasoned and thoughtful professional who has devoted most of his adult life to advocating for Maine agriculture."

Lavway is scheduled to make several trips on behalf of the NPC in early April and then assume his new position at the FSA.

Bud Middaugh, executive director of the NPC, said, "Undoubtedly, Dave's appointment is an unique opportunity for him to continue working with agriculture and we wish him well. At the same time the NPC now will focus on structural adjustments which match grower expectations with available manpower and financial resources."
