USDA's March 1 Potato Stocks Report shows that potatoes held in Idaho storage totaled 75,000,000 cwt, 10,000,000 cwt more than on hand March 1, 2000.
However, on the flip side, disappearance at 77,320,000 cwt is up from last year's 68,330,000 cwt and above 1999's 72,000,000 cwt.
In the 15 fall storage states, March 1 stocks totaled a record high 198 million cwt, up 17 percent from last year and 5 percent above the previous record in March 1997. Disappearance from start of harvest to March 1 was a record high 264 million cwt.
