National Potato Promotion Board has announced it will begin focusing on the business message of higher net profitability for fries.

The program to be called "value purchasing," will promote the message that fries with higher solids content and quality are higher yielding, therefore more profitable to customers.

A contract with the Food Innovation Center at Oregon State University has been signed. Testing of potato solids is now under way.

Once the research is complete, the Board will prepare an U.S. International market sales message based on the results and the key criteria that influences buyer decisions.

This will be established from a survey of decision-makers in restaurant chains. The Board will then make individual sales calls on the CFOs and purchasing managers at a target list of restaurant chains to present the "value purchasing" story or higher yields/profits from the highest-quality fries.
