Irish growers may leave more than 20 percent of the potato crop in the ground after being hit by recent heavy frost and snow.

The area around Dublin has had four straight months of above average rainfall. In many areas rainfall has been the heaviest in 20 years.

Officials say it will be early March before the rest of the crop can be harvested and the exact loss known.
