Two numbered potato varieties have recently been named and released under the multi-state and ARS varietal-development program.
IdaRose, a round, red-skinned variety for the fresh market and garden use, tested under the pedigree number A82705-1R, was released by the Idaho and California land-grant university experiment stations and the ARS.
It was selected in 1984 from a cross of Sangre and TXA218-7. Selection and early testing were done by J.J. Pavek and D. L. Corsini, USDA-ARS, Aberdeen, ID. Advanced testing and seed multiplication was done by state, industry, and private cooperators in the western United States.
The Gem Russet, a long, russet-skinned variety tested under the pedigree number A8495-1, was released by the Idaho, Oregon, Washington land-grant university experiment stations and the ARS.
