EPA has extended the comment period on its proposal to revise the public participation process now in use for the reassessment of the organophosphate pesticides.

In addition, the comment period will be extended for all pesticides going through re-registration and tolerance re-assessment.

The comment period will now close May 15.

EPA began this public participation initiative as a pilot in July 1998, after consultation with the Tolerance Reassessment Advisory Committee (TRAC) as a way to increase transparency of regulatory processes and consultation with affected stakeholders.

Based on lessons learned during the pilot period and further consultation, EPA is now proposing a revised process that further enhances public participation. The process includes six phases with two public comment periods, as well as expanded public engagement.

The process includes six phases with two public comment periods, as well as expanded public engagement before starting the process. Comments must be identified by the Docket Number OPP-00645A. The Federal Register notice is available at: http://www.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aces140.html.
