Seed potato statistics recently compiled by the World Potato Congress gives the total for the world at $30 billion.
A list of 24 countries showed that the United States was No. 1 in commercial seed value at $4.5 billion. Tying for distant second place were China and Japan at $2.5 billion.
The Confederation of Independent States (formerly the USSR) was fourth at $2 billion. France came in fifth at $1.5 billion, followed by Brazil, $1.2 billion, Germany, $1 billion, India, $900 million, Argentina, $750 million, and Italy rounding out the top 10 at $650 million.
